Yates is humble, but effective
During our years in Newton, we have grown to appreciate our Ward 5 Alderman-at-Large, Brian Yates. Brian is a humble but effective legislator who embodies many of the qualities that we so admire in a public servant. No problem is too little to be addressed or too big to be out of the realm of consideration. He is homegrown and truly committed to his constituents without any professional ties to the City of Newton.
One of the finest qualities that we perceive in Brian is his willingness to go the extra mile for the residents of Newton. Brian exemplified political courage when he set the legislative record straight for the City of Newton. He recently helped correct the City’s misinterpretation of a zoning ordinance by co-authoring two “Friends of the Court” briefs that explained to both the MA Appeals Court as well as the Supreme Judicial Court, the legislative intent of an integrated set of zoning amendments that were passed when he was Chair of the Zoning and Planning Committee of the Board of Aldermen in 2001.
The City of Newton is now in a potentially transformative phase of residential development as we have entered into the first phase of the Zoning Reform Initiative. As I believe, WE are the best stewards of our community and those that we elect to lead us are critically important to that process. Brian listens and best represents the interests of all of the residents of Newton. WE, as a community need to collectively prioritize what we value and what we envision for Newton’s next generation
Newton will benefit by the continued work of Brian Yate’s utilizing the institutional knowledge that he has acquired as the Dean of the Board of Aldermen. We need his experience, his wisdom and his leadership going forward.
Please join us in voting to re-elect Brian Yates for Alderman-at-Large for the City of Newton.
