Yates an advocate for libraries

Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - 7:45pm

I am writing in support of Brian Yates candidacy for Alderman-at-Large from Ward 5. I know Brian from his long service as Vice President of the Friends of the Newton Free Library when we worked hard to persuade the Mayor and Board of Aldermen that our Centre Street Main Library Building was outdated, unsafe, and inadequate for the needs of it present citizenry. As we built consensus for a new Main Library building, Brian also was a strong voice for the needs of the villages and their branch libraries, a voice which persists today.

Over the years, Brian has worked with other Board members to achieve agreement on many important issues such as the preservation of Hemlock Gorge, support for green energy initiatives, affordable housing and smart zoning—all issues which affected Newton citizens citywide.

Because of his long and very involved service on the Board, his institutional memory is invaluable.

Please join me on Nov. 5 in voting for Brian Yates for Alderman-at Large from Ward5.
