• As a member of the Zoning Review Committee, I proposed the threshold size for commercial developments that would require a special permit.
  • As an Alderman, I responded to the construction of Monster Homes in Newton by sponsoring or co-sponsoring measures establishing a floor area ratio and height limitation on residences. If re-elected, I will study other measures to regulate excessive development while allowing property owners the right to use their property.
  • With a member of the Planning Department, I conducted a workshop on Monster Homes as part of the American Planning Association’s National Conference in Boston. In 2000, Newton’s efforts to control over development were cited in the New York Times.
