As a member of the Committee on Community Preservation, I’ve worked to preserve Newton’s Historic Buildings and Landscapes, acquire new open space, and preserve or develop community housing:

CIP Future Projects—Historic Preservation
I proposed an amendment to the current Capital Improvement Program that added the following future projects to be funded with CPA funds:
FY10-Repairs to the Civil War Memorial at the Newton Cemetery. (Plan Developed with CPA funds)
FY11—Historic Preservation of Braceland Playground in Upper Falls to its original historic configuration of the late 19th/early 20th centuries when baseball Games at the site were of intense regional interest. Extensive historic documentation will need to be developed in the interim.
FY12-Restoration of the City Hall grounds to its original Olmsted design as noted on the National Register of Historic Places.
FY13-Repair and Restore Historic Dioramas in the War Memorial.
FY14-Repair of the National Register listed building in Newton Centre currently occupied by the Newton Health Department.
